2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Check Engine Light
If your PT Cruiser is experiencing “surging” with the check engine light on be aware that something very serious could be wrong with your car’s computer system! I trust Mike’s Auto Repair and before they diagnosed my 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser’s faulty PCM, they thoroughly scanned and inspected for the problem. The computer scan showed over five possible codes that could be causing the surging. Mike’s team of ASE Certified Master Technicians ran through each code and was able to clear them. Before he suggested replacing the ECM (Engine Control Module) he recommended clearing the codes and cleaning the throttle body and try driving it. With all the recent rains, Mike explained it wasn’t unusual to see shorts in the electrical and computer systems as the components are drying out. I put over 100 miles on my PT Cruiser, but it started to surge once again. Immediately, Mike’s Auto Repair scanned the computer only to find more codes than before coming up on the scanner, but it did confirm my ECM was faulty. I appreciated the fact that Mike was sensitive to my budget and was willing to try the throttle body cleaning first instead of going right for the most expensive repair. As he explained, sometimes the check engine light can be a simple fix; sometimes it takes time to eliminate the different codes to diagnose the exact problem. In my case the more expensive fix was the solution, but I appreciate the time Mike’s Auto Repair put behind the repair and did their best to get me back on the road safely.
