The best way to protect your vehicle investment is to maintain it properly. Following the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual is the “safest” way to go.
Most manufacturers’ recommendation is to replace the timing belt every 60,000 miles. Many people do not realize the importance of replacing the timing belt especially when the car is running fine and there doesn’t seem to be any problems.
Over time and mileage timing belts tend to wear and stretch. When a belt breaks, the damage to the engine can be substantial. The engine may have to be replaced. If you have an extended warranty on your engine, not following the suggested maintenance schedule will void the warranty. By replacing the timing belt before it fails you can prevent costly damage to the engine.
